Corner guard

A corner guard is a small cushion, usually foam or soft rubber, that attaches with adhesive to a sharp furniture corner or table edge. The goal is to soften the impact if a baby or toddler bumps into or falls against that corner while learning to walk and cruise around furniture.

In a small apartment, furniture tends to be packed more closely together, which can mean more corners within reach of a crawling or walking baby in a limited amount of floor space. Coffee tables, low shelving units and hearths are common spots parents add corner guards, alongside other babyproofing steps like anchoring taller furniture to the wall.

When shopping, check the adhesive strength against your specific furniture material, since guards can peel off laminate or glossy surfaces more easily than wood. Measure the corner or edge length so the guard actually covers the full area rather than a fraction of it. A common mistake is applying corner guards but skipping the more important step of anchoring tall, top-heavy furniture to the wall, which addresses a bigger risk than a sharp corner alone.
